Genesis is the 1st book of the Old Testament and the 1st book of the Law. It has 50 chapters. In the Hebrew Bible, Genesis is part of the תּוֹרָה (Torah, or Law).
The historical account in Genesis begins with creation in chapter 1 and ends with the death of Joseph in the final verse, Genesis 50:26. The date of creation is uncertain; however, the death of Joseph can be dated with a reasonable degree of certainty. Dr. Paul Benware dates it to around 1804 BC.
