1Â David said, âIs there yet any who is left of Saulâs house, that I may show him kindness for Jonathanâs sake?â 2Â There was of Saulâs house a servant whose name was Ziba, and they called him to David; and the king said to him, âAre you Ziba?â
He said, âI am your servant.â
3Â The king said, âIs there not yet any of Saulâs house, that I may show the kindness of God to him?â
Ziba said to the king, âJonathan still has a son, who is lame in his feet.â
4Â The king said to him, âWhere is he?â
Ziba said to the king, âBehold, he is in the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, in Lo Debar.â
5Â Then King David sent and brought him out of the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, from Lo Debar. 6Â Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, fell on his face, and showed respect. David said, âMephibosheth?â
He answered, âBehold, your servant!â
7Â David said to him, âDonât be afraid, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your fatherâs sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your father. You will eat bread at my table continually.â
8Â He bowed down, and said, âWhat is your servant, that you should look at such a dead dog as I am?â
9Â Then the king called to Ziba, Saulâs servant, and said to him, âAll that belonged to Saul and to all his house I have given to your masterâs son. 10Â Till the land for himâyou, your sons, and your servants. Bring in the harvest, that your masterâs son may have bread to eat; but Mephibosheth your masterâs son will always eat bread at my table.â
Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants. 11Â Then Ziba said to the king, âAccording to all that my lord the king commands his servant, so your servant will do.â So Mephibosheth ate at the kingâs table like one of the kingâs sons. 12Â Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Mica. All who lived in Zibaâs house were servants to Mephibosheth. 13Â So Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, for he ate continually at the kingâs table. He was lame in both his feet.
